All About Me!

By day I am a mild-mannered IT nerd working for a very large video games publisher ... I'll let you guess which one. I've been working here for the majority of my working life, currently into my 14th year and 2nd country of residence.

I am English born and bred, it's home for me and always will be. I am, however, currently living and working in Madrid, Spain where I've been for around 5 years. I was moved out here with my job as part of an office relocation. I nearly turned the offer down, but decided I should at least give it a try ... and I've been here ever since. I miss England every day though, and I will find my way back there one day!

I really only started photography "seriously" a few years ago when my lovely girlfriend bought me a Canon 500D for Christmas. I spent some time playing around with it, took some nice shots, and then life took over a little and the camera didn't get much action for a year or so. Then we went on a zoo visit a few years ago, and I took the camera along with me. During that visit I took a bunch of shots, but one in particular made me think "wow, that's actually kinda good", and made me wonder what else I could achieve if I invested a little more time into this camera lark. This is that shot .......

... and thus I began to take more photos, and invest a bit more time into learning and practice. I haven't settled on a specific specialisation because I currently enjoy all forms of photography. As you can see from my galleries, I tend to focus on Macro & Wildlife at the moment, but it's more due to a lack of other subject material in my current location than anything else. I am still using the 500D, but am looking to upgrade shortly (probably to the 70D). Here is the list of gear that I currently use:

Canon EOS 70D
Canon EOS 500D
Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens
Canon 18-135mm IS kit lens
Canon 50mm f/1.8
Canon 55-250 IS II
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro
Canon Speedlite 430EX II
Mieke FC-100 Ring Flash
Manfrotto 190XB Tripod + Manfrotto 804RC2 Head
Yungnao RF-603 Wireless Flash/Shutter triggers

I am still very much a beginner, but I can see the differences in the shots I take each year as I learn new techniques and skills. My editing is done mostly on Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom 5.
